Arts, Entertainment and Recreation Establishments

What does this measure?

The number of establishments in the Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector, shown as a rate per 10,000 people.

Why is this important?

Arts and cultural attractions bring visitors and money into a region, and contribute to the vitality and prestige of a community.

How is our county performing?

In 2019, there were 3.6 establishments in the Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector per 10,000 residents in Berks County. This was slightly lower than the state rate of 4.0 and lower than the U.S. rate of 4.6.

Compared to neighboring counties, Berks County's Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector was higher than Lancaster (3.3), Lebanon (3.2), Lehigh (3.4) and Schuylkill (2.5) counties. It had a lower rate than Chester (5.1) and Montgomery (5.7) counties.

Notes about the data

County establishment estimates are reported by place of work, not place of residence. An establishment is a single physical location at which business is conducted or services or industrial operations are performed. This indicator includes a wide range of businesses and organizations, including theaters, performing arts, music, sports, racetracks, promoters, museums, historic sites, zoos, casinos, golf courses and marinas. 2020 data for this indicator are expected to be released in the second quarter of 2022.
